SUNSTAR Cookie Policy

Last updated: 28th May, 2018

SUNSTAR uses cookies and similar tools across its websites to improve their performance and enhance your user experience; this cookie policy also applies to any branded pages on third party platforms and applications accessed or used through such websites or platforms which are operated by or on behalf of SUNSTAR (altogether « SUNSTAR Sites »).

What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file that is stored in your web browser that allows SUNSTAR or a third party to (1) enable certain functions, (2) provide analytics and (3) store your preferences to speed up your future activities and experiences on the SUNSTAR Sites.

What type of cookies does SUNSTAR use?

Cookies can either be session or persistent cookies. A session cookie expires automatically when you close your browser. A persistent cookie will remain until it expire (as set in the cookies themselves) or you delete your cookies.

How do third parties use cookies on the SUNSTAR Sites?

Third party companies like analytics companies generally use cookies to collect user information on an anonymous basis. They may use that information to build a profile of your activities on the SUNSTAR Sites and other websites that you have visited.

How do I accept or refuse cookies?

Most browsers are initially set up to automatically accept cookies but allow you to change these settings to delete existing cookies, block future ones or alert you when they are being sent to your device. Please refer to your browser instructions to that effect. Should you modify the settings, please note, however, that you might not be able to use all the features SUNSTAR offers or store your preferences, and that some of SUNSTAR pages may not be displayed properly any longer.

Each browser has its own setting in terms of cookie management. In order to enable you to make appropriate choices, please refer to:

You shall find information as to this type of cookies and opt out options here

Technologies similar to cookies

Technically speaking, cookies are called “HTTP cookies.” There are other technologies that can be used for similar purposes, such as HTML5 Local Storage and local shared objects (LSOs). LSOs are used by the authors of files that are read by Adobe® Flash® Player and the websites hosting those files. We may use HTML5 Local Storage, LSOs, and similar technologies for authenticating you, keeping track of information you have provided to us, and remembering your preferences. When you are using a Sunstar application offline, we may store information related to how you used that website on your device and then transfer it to our servers the next time you connect online to our service.

IP addresses

An IP address is a number that is used by computers on the network to identify your computer every time you log on to the Internet. We may record partial IP Addresses for the following purposes:

(i) Troubleshoot technical concerns, (ii) Maintain website safety and security (iii) Better understand how our websites are utilized, and (iv) To better tailor content to your needs.

Log Files

We (or a third party on our behalf) may collect information in the form of logs files that record website activity and gather statistics about a user’s browsing habits. These entries are generated anonymously, and help us gather (among other things) (i) a user’s browser type and operating system, (ii) information about a user’s session (such as the URL they came from, the date and time they visited our website, and which pages they've viewed on our website and for how long), and, (iii) other similar navigational or click-stream data.

Web beacons and embedded scripts

Web beacons and embedded scripts are other technologies that we use in our websites, as well as in some of our emails and ads.

Web beacons (or “tags”) are bits of programming code included in web pages, emails, and ads that notify Sunstar (or the companies that help us run our business) when those web pages, emails, or ads have been viewed or clicked on.

Embedded scripts are bits of programming code included within some of our web pages that measure how you use those web pages, such as which links you click. We use this information to improve our websites, tailor our websites to your likely interests, and conduct market research. You may be able to turn off scripting functionality, such as JavaScript, within your browser (please refer to your browser's help function). Note that if you disable scripting functionality, some Sunstar websites may not function properly.
